Understanding the reality of the properties and establishing a baseline for technical monitoring were the main objectives of the first round of good practices services conducted in March by the BioSistêmico Institute (IBS) with producers assisted by Project MS Sul Leite in Ponta Porã (MS).
During the visits, the technical team applied the CheckMilk methodology, a tool that allows for the evaluation of different aspects of dairy farming and the identification of points that can be improved throughout the project's execution.
“The initial visits are essential for us to understand the characteristics of each property and build a plan aligned with the producers' reality. This diagnosis guides the actions that will be developed in the upcoming visits,” explains veterinarian Isabelle Aiello, the IBS consultant who coordinates the project's actions.
The CheckMilk methodology includes the evaluation of different areas of dairy farming, such as animal health, milking hygiene, nutrition, animal welfare, socioeconomic management, and environmental issues. Based on this survey, each producer receives guidance and recommendations tailored to the needs identified on their property.
The information obtained in this stage will serve as a reference to monitor the evolution of indicators throughout the project. All records are stored on the CheckMilk platform, allowing the technical team to track the implementation of improvements and the results achieved over time.
With the conclusion of this first round of services, Project MS Sul Leite advances to the next stages of technical assistance, training, and producer monitoring, focusing on strengthening dairy farming and generating sustainable results for the assisted families.
About Project MS Sul Leite
Conceived by the BioSistêmico Institute (IBS) and funded by the Zoetis Foundation, Project MS Sul Leite works alongside members of the Agricultural Cooperative of Milk Producers of Ponta Porã (Cooperporã). Its objective is to strengthen family dairy farming in the southern region of Mato Grosso do Sul.
The initiative promotes specialized technical assistance, training, and the application of technologies aimed at improving production systems, covering areas such as reproductive, health, and nutritional herd management, zootechnical management, and the adoption of good production practices.
The project also develops actions aimed at strengthening associations and cooperatives, alongside initiatives to engage rural youth and women. Throughout its execution, it seeks to contribute to increasing productivity, improving milk quality, ensuring property sustainability, and fostering the development of producing families in the region.
