Project MS Sul Leite Strengthens Cooperporã's Organization with Collective Activities

The organization of producers and the strengthening of the Agricultural Cooperative of Milk Producers of Ponta Porã (Cooperporã) are among the focuses of the satellite activities of Project MS Sul Leite. Led by BioSistêmico Institute (IBS) consultant Moacir Kretzmann, the first meetings aimed to diagnose the cooperative's current reality and define actions focused on association, cooperativism, and member engagement.

In addition to technical assistance on the properties, the project includes collective activities aimed at improving management, social organization, and producer participation.

The first meetings, held in March and May, were dedicated to diagnosing the cooperative, considering aspects related to social organization, member participation, management, and the production context.

Based on this assessment, the initial actions to be developed throughout the project were defined. One of these actions was the creation of six member hubs. This proposal seeks to bring the cooperative closer to its associates through monthly meetings held within the communities themselves, expanding the dialogue among producers, the board of directors, and the technical team.

"Our first step was to understand the cooperative's reality and listen to the producers to define actions aligned with the group's needs. The creation of these hubs brings the members closer to the cooperative, increases participation in decisions, and contributes to improving the management process," explains Moacir Kretzmann.

The diagnosis also showed a significant presence of women running the properties. In many families, they play a central role in milk production. For this reason, each hub will have two representatives—one man and one woman—expanding female participation in the cooperative's activities.

The first meetings also brought together young people connected to the rural properties. Throughout the project, this audience will be encouraged to participate in training activities, contributing to family succession and the continuity of dairy farming.

The satellite activities are part of Project MS Sul Leite's strategy to combine technical assistance, social organization, and training. The proposal aims to contribute to the evolution of the properties and the strengthening of Cooperporã, increasing member participation in management and in the actions developed throughout the project.produtoras da região.

Conceived by the BioSistêmico Institute (IBS) and funded by the Zoetis Foundation, Project MS Sul Leite works alongside members of the Agricultural Cooperative of Milk Producers of Ponta Porã (Cooperporã). Its objective is to strengthen family dairy farming in the southern region of Mato Grosso do Sul.

The initiative promotes specialized technical assistance, training, and the application of technologies aimed at improving production systems, covering areas such as reproductive, health, and nutritional herd management, zootechnical management, and the adoption of good production practices.

The project also develops actions aimed at strengthening associations and cooperatives, alongside initiatives to engage rural youth and women. Throughout its execution, it seeks to contribute to increasing productivity, improving milk quality, ensuring property sustainability, and fostering the development of producing families in the region.
